The date for school outing was set for June 20th.

The principal told us it would cost six dollars each.

"This year,"he said, "We will go by train. This is a change from last year.?

We assembled at the school at 9 o'lock, and by 9:30 we were aboard the train.

It was a good arrangement. Each car held two classes.

Three cars were added to the regular train so that there would be enough room for other passengers.

As our classes were only about thirty each, there was plenty of room.

We arrived at our destination by twelve, and each class went with its teacher
to lunch.

Then the guides came and took us for a tour of West Point and finally we stopped at a small river where we had snacks.

We were on the train again by six o'lock. We never needed the raincoats
everyone was carrying.
